The Mission Ball is a ministry of Gomadis International, a 501c3 not-for-profit. GoMaDis comes from Matthew 28:19 where Jesus says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.”
The ministry was started by Torrey Babb back in 2008 when he was burdened by the lack of evangelism he observed on many mission trips. Babb explained, “I had built houses, fixed houses, provided basic essentials, and given away material goods, but I was left feeling that If all I’d done is made their journey to hell more comfortable, I had failed at The Great Commission.”
Torrey had been praying for something that would help others connect with people and also create opportunities for Evangelism. As an answer to prayer, he had the idea to use the world’s most popular sport to share it’s most needed message. With support from his wife Heather, lots of prayer, and a willingness to risk it all, The Mission Ball was officially launched in Aug of 2009. After a trip to South Africa, one person enthusiastically commented, “I could sit in the park all day with my Bible and not a single person would approach me, but the moment I brought The Mission Ball out of my bag I couldn’t keep people away. It was like ringing a bell at dinner time.”
What started as a simple prayer to equip everyday people with the ability and confidence to share their faith, has now grown to an international organization with endorsements from some of the largest Christian Ministries around. The Mission Ball is now available in 38 different languages, 2 different sports, and over 100,000 have been used in 91 countries around the world to proclaim the good news of Grace Alone, through Faith Alone, in Christ Alone.
By God’s grace and wisdom, along with the prayers and support of faithful brothers and sisters, we seek to remain faithful to our calling to equip people to draw a crowd, make a connection, invite curiosity, and proclaim Christ!
